Definition: telcall
telcall: Is an acronym for telephone selective calling. Telcall is a means of automatically calling from a mobile radio station to a telephone number via a remote telephone interconnect base station whereby a specific call sequence is sent to signal the telephone interconnect equipment and to establish and control a telephone call.
Telcall is usually in a similar format to selcall but with the addition of telephone number information. The telephone interconnect equipment is connected between a base radio and a telephone line and is responsible for the setting up and clearing down of the telephone call in response to commands from either the mobile radio or the telephone user.
Telephone users can also "dial in" to the telephone interconnect number and set up a call to a mobile radio.
Additionally there are many commercial and military selcall systems which utilise their own signalling protocols and formats. Our products utilise the commonly used Land Mobile Radio selcall system as used by Barrett and Codan, amongst others, and which is based loosely on the ITU - M 483 Recommendation.
